The Benefits of Juicing

The major advantage of juicing is that it's an easy way to get a large heap of fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet in one easy go.

Some benefits of juicing are:

  • It's one of the best ways to boost your health
  • It repairs years of physical damage
  • It's easy to digest and thus allowing your body to absorb many more nutrients at a faster pace.
  • Many juicer enthusiasts say it is of great benefit to the heart.
  • Most fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins C and E which are great for boosting the immune system.
  • Liver detoxification - The liver works on overload  on a regular basis as we constantly bombard our bodies with toxins in what we digest and breathe.
  • Another great reason to juice is to alkalize your body. These days, most Westerners have highly acidic bodies which allow for an abundant growth of diseases. Scientists have long stated their belief that creating an alkaline environment could be one of the best ways to fight off disease. Keep in mind that all vegetables are alkalizing but not all fruits are.
  • Another great benefit of juicing is that it gives you the ability to up your intake of chlorophyll. This is a green pigment found in plants and it can help to strengthen the blood and rebuild red blood cells.

Vegetable juices are very rich in nutrients though while they are no substitute for an overall balanced diet, they can help offset less-healthy diets.

Fresh juice is best. Get yours from a juice bar or make it at home and drink it as soon as possible both for nutrition and for flavour.

Make sure to get a lot of variety in your juices, for examples:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Leafy greens
  • Fresh herbs
How to make the best juice

"You can juice anything," says Doug McNish the Executive Chef at Raw Aura Restaurant in Ontario.  "Start experimenting with what you like." He goes on to suggest to aim for vibrant colours and gradually reducing the percentage of fruit as you get more accustomed to the flavour of vegetable and green juices.

Some of his favourite blends and flavours include pear and pink grapefruit and straight carrot juice. He also makes a daily habit of a green juice blend containing:

  • Kale
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
  • Lemon
  • Ginger
  • Parsley
  • Romaine lettuce
